While Engine 2 and Brush 2 were on the way Central updated the call andadvised that the fire was threatening a structure and Cornelius Fire was addedto the call. As Engine 2 drew close to the neighborhood a column of black smokewas visible and within minutes Engine 2 arrived on location and reported a workingvehicle fire involving an SUV parked in the driveway next to a residence.Engine 2 stretched the 1 front bumper line down the driveway and began immediatesuppression efforts. Shortly thereafter Huntersville Brush 2 Cornelius Engine3 and 2 arrived on scene. Arriving crews helped suppress the fire and gain accessto the engine compartment which was still burning upon their arrival. Firedamage was contained to the SUV. The vehicle was a total loss and the ownerreported her had not been driven for several days but the car alarm soundedbriefly just before she found the fire. The Mecklenburg County Fire Marshal andthe Cornelius Police Department are investigation a possible electrical shortas the cause.
