With potential serious weather arriving (Hurricane Irma) at the first part of next week – we want to assure you that we’re working with our Town, County and State partners to plan and prepare. We will continue to work closely with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Emergency Management, NC Emergency Management and the U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) on messaging and updates for you. For now, the best advice we can offer is to not panic but to plan. Here are some tips:
1. Sit down and make a family plan: What is my shelter plan? If needed, how / where do I evacuate? What is my family / household communication plan? Here’s a LINK to help you make this plan.
2. Build a ready kit: This kit should contain, food, water, battery operated NOAA Weather Radio, extra batteries, first aid kit, flashlight. Here’s a LINK to help you make a kit.
3. Be informed: How will I receive alerts? How will I know what we need to do (evacuate, shelter in place etc). We recommend following us, Charlotte Mecklenburg EM on Facebook and or Twitter. Here’s a LINK to help you be informed.
We still have some time before we know what the actual impact of #HurricaneIrma will be for our area. Until then, keep your cool, don’t panic and have a plan! Here is a LINK for additional details on how our area is preparing. #ReadyNC #CMEMO #IrmaNC
