*2:50am* Our Stations 1, 2 assisting Cornelius-Lemley Fire Rescue with a serious MVA on I77 (Southbound after Exit 28), the accident involves a large truck. The Southbound lanes of I77 are currently closed as our Engine 2 lands a MedCenter Air Helicopter on the roadway. #CLTtraffic

*3:45am UPDATE* I77 Southbound will be closed for sometime, crews are still extricating the patient & have been on scene just shy of an hour now. The MedCenterAir helicopter will remain staged on the interstate.

‪*4:09am UPDATE* The patient, from the tractor trailer, has been extricated & is being transferred to the MedCenterAir crew for care & transport. Extrication took approximately 1 hour & 15 mins. Strong work by first responders on scene. I77 Southbound remains CLOSED.

‪*4:25am FINAL UPDATE* Patient is aboard MedCenterAir and on the way to a local trauma center. The dump truck involved was carrying asphalt, which spilled all over the interstate, expect a lengthy clean up and road closure. Thanks to everyone that assisted in the care of this patient tonight! From local fire departments, police and EMS, you men and women did an excellent job tonight. I couldn't have asked for a better collection of people to help us land safely, package the patient and assist us to the helicopter. We could not have done it without you! I admire what all of you do. We at MedCenter Air couldn't do our job without you! Thanks again and stay safe!

Jeff Tarte meanwhile NCDOT insists there is nothing more to do to I crease safety in this area, time for some DOT heads to do some 'splainin"!!!!

I-77 is a death trap and sadly, no one in Raleigh cares.
