Just after lunchtime today, Stations 1 and 4 responded to the 230 Block of Columbia Drive for a report of a fire in an apartment building off Gilead Rd. The caller told 911 that there was a fire and that they had exited the structure but they were not sure if anyone was in any of the apartments. Engine 1 arrived on scene to a fire that had been mostly controlled by the sprinklers in the building. Engine 1’s crew quickly extinguished the smoldering embers. Tower 1 arrived and LT. Massey assumed command followed by a quick control time. There were no injuries and the Mecklenburg County Fire Marshals Office is investigating the cause of the fire.

Engine 4 and Ladder 4 responded but were cleared quickly and returned to service. Our crew’s quick response and swift actions held the fire to the stairwell and no extension was found.
