With the 4th of July around the corner, we wanted to share some Firework safety tips. A good rule of thumb: fireworks that leave the ground are probably not legal here in NC. We discourage the use of ANY illegal fireworks. Our Police Department posted on this very topic last week (we’ve included that post as well.
Each July 4th, thousands of people, most often children and teens, are injured while using consumer fireworks. Despite the dangers of fireworks, few people underst…and the associated risks – devastating burns, other injuries, fires, and even death.
In 2018, fireworks started an estimated 19,500 fires, including 1,900 structure fires, 500 vehicle fires, and 17,100 outside fires. These fires caused five deaths, 46 civilian injuries, and $105 million in direct property damage.
If you decide to use legal fireworks remember to NEVER discard used fireworks into your trash bins. Place them inside a bucket of water for days to ensure they are completely cool and extinguished before discarding them into the trash. Each year we (HFD) respond to fires associated with trash bins, on occasion that fire has spread to homes.
We have attached a fireworks safety tip sheet for you. Please be safe this Holiday and leave the the fireworks for the professionals. #OneTownOneTeam #HuntersvilleFD #July4 #IndependenceDay #Fireworks #TheMoreYouKnow 🇺🇸
