At 10:59 am this morning our Stations 1 & 2 were dispatched to a working house fire in the 8100 Block of Maxwelton Drive. Our Engine 2 arrived on scene first to a single story residence with heavy fire showing from the garage area. Crews extended 3 attack lines into the home extinguishing the fire within 25 minutes. Firefighters conducting a search of the residence were able to locate & rescue 4 pets from the home (3 cats & 1 dog). Two of the cats required treatment on scene. Our firefighters and MEDIC administered oxygen, successfully reviving two of the cats. All 3 cats (cat 3 was alert & fine) were transported and treated for smoke inhalation. The dog suffered no injuries and actually played with firefighters after the fire.
During the incident a firefighter, in the attic of the home fighting the fire, suffered minor burns. He was transported by MEDIC to CMC Huntersville for treatment and eventually released. His name and agency affiliation have not been released. We'd like to thank the Cornelius-Lemley Fire Rescue, Huntersville Police Department, CMPD Animal Care and Control & Mecklenburg EMS Agency - Medic for their assistance in this incident as well as the Town Of Davidson and the East Lincoln Fire Department for providing Station coverage for Huntersville & Cornelius. Investigators are on scene investigating the cause, two adults were displaced and the home is a total loss.
