Shortly after 5 pm this evening, our Stations 1, 2 & Cornelius-Lemley Fire Rescue were dispatched to the Target store (Northcross Shopping Center) for a building fire. Upon arrival fire crews found heavy smoke inside the store and an active fire in the grocery portion of the store being held by the sprinkler system. Crews stretched 2 attack lines inside the building while other crews conducted a complete search for occupants. No customers or employees were found and the fire was controlled within 24 minutes. A total of 4 patients were identified and cared for by MEDIC & North Mecklenburg Volunteer Rescue Squad. All four patients complained of smoke inhalation but refused transport. VENT 1 (Charlotte Fire) also responded to the scene & assisted with smoke removal.
